This page is for people that have been important to the success of NEAR-Fest and are now Silent Keys. You are gone but not forgotten and will always remain in our memory. Thank you for all you have done.

I am saddened to inform you all that Joseph Areyzaga, K1JGA, of Goffstown NH, became a Silent Key on Saturday, July 27th 2019. Joe and Michael Rancourt, K1EEE, were working at the 40’ level taking down Mike’s tower at his house in Deerfield when it suddenly buckled and collapsed under them. The scene of the accident was about a mile from the Fairgrounds.

Both men were rushed to the Elliott Hospital in Manchester where Joe succumbed to his injuries. Mike was very seriously injured in the mishap but is recovering nicely and was in good spirits when I visited him at the hospital on August 13th.

Joe and Mike were both regular attendees at NEAR-Fest. “JoJo” was a volunteer in the campground crew run by Joe, K1JEK, and the Port City club. Mike was a member of the Contoocook Valley Radio Club and was instrumental in building KA1SKY which is the amateur radio station at the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center in Concord NH, a gift from NEAR-Fest nearly a decade ago.

NEAR-Fest staff expresses our condolences to Joe’s family and our hopes for Mike’s speedy and full recovery.

NEAR-Fest XXVI is dedicated to Joe’s memory. A brief ceremony of remembrance will be held at 2:00 on Saturday October 12th in the Relaxation Grove at closing ceremonies.
