Players and listeners!

In the next week or so I'll post the total lack of rules, regulations and by-laws to the October Near-Fest jam.

Stay tuned.

Since the Fest is a week later this fall, there's the slight chance it may be a little colder. To me that means more players and a larger audience trying to get out of the chill.

The usual preamble applies.
Who's coming, what equipment are you bringing, are you going to play as a group, solo?

We'll be allowing both kinds of music this Fest. Listenable and unlistenable. (Wait... so what did we have last time?)
Rumor has it M.J. will be coming back from the dead and teaming with Elvis to moon walk for us.
I know, that was uncalled for.

I hope to be hosting a few practices in the coming weeks in Southern MA.
If your interested in coming please contact me direct. (techfixer@verizon.net)
I will not be posting the practice dates on the Fest site.

The practices are for two things. Friends old and new getting together just to play and for working on some of the harder songs in the hopes of wowing the crowd with our skills as master muze-ishions.
We'll pick 3 to 5 songs and work em' till they or we crack.

Previous practices were fun and resulted in only minor fist fights, tho Cliff did bite Don on the leg twice
We had to take his tube amp away for a week on that one. 'Course that never would have happened if John didn't pee in Don's guitar case in the first place.

More to come soon!

So........ Who's up for some practices?
Help me out here. Stop lurkin' an' lets get picken.
Here's you chance to be no where near famous.

All we ask is you wear clean underwear (in case you get in an accident, your mother will be proud) Are vaguely aware of rhythm and pitch, have your own instrument, transportation, large sum of cash, a hot wife/girlfriend, liquor and a valid get out of jail card.

The rest is up to your amazing talent which we will suck the life out of.
Lets hear from you or I'm gonna play "We are the world" all night long.

Hey, since it's a little closer to halloween should we make this a spectacle? I mean more than it usually turns out to be.

Hi Bri & Guys!
Sorry I've been out of touch! I do plan to attend the nearfest in October! Sorry I missed the spring show, but as you know It was way too close to the wifes due date! The baby came quite late, but she's very healthy & happy. Her name is "Alexandria" Both mom and baby did awsome! I'll have pics with me!
Now, as far as the Jam, what do you need me to bring?  I have two choices for drums if you need them. I still have the full electric kit or I have a Yamaha DD-55 with pedals. I'll problably drag out a guitar & a little amp. Also a mic & stand. Oh yea, and all my usual bad jokes! I will check back here often as the date approches to see what may be needed.
Looking forward to see you all again,
rick

This is GREAT!
I'm glad to see Rick will be there.
Congrats to Rick and the Mrs. !!
Rick, On the drums: Wait a bit till I hear if John's coming with his acoustic set.
If not I may be able to bring my Roland set I got last fall.

In the next week I'll post my list of songs I can play and if anyone wants to join in, by all means.
By the same token if you have songs you'd like to play either by yourself, with your band or if you'd like some of the "regular players" to add their touch; Let us know. I also do want to have some straight jams as well. Nothing planned, kind of like someone put out a riff or beat and everyone tries to take it somewhere.

I'll be bringing my usual list of equipment (I'll post that later on down the road)
I'm hoping Tyler can come this time. I'll know by Friday.

More soon. Stay tuned.

...of course I'll be there, along with my acoustic kit! This time we HAVE to play "Incubus - Follow". It's gonna make you hurt, though! It has the following time signatures: 4/4, 6/8, 7/8, 8/8, 9/8 and 11/8! Make sure you listen to the version on the Bonus CD of "Alive at Red Rocks", the mainstream version isn't the one I like. If you look at some of my old posts you'll get some idea of what I attempt to  play.
So, here's some of what we should be playing this NearFest VI.
This somewhat depends on who we have for players.
My usual preamble applies: If you'd like to get some backup on some songs please post it here

spooky - classics iv/ atlanta rhythm section
people who died - jim carrol band
the letter - no capo - joe cocker
Operator - Jim crocee
assorted blues jam - in Am
stuck in the middle - steelers wheel
i'm only sleeping - no capo - beatles
Layla - Eric
pretty woman -  roy (the voice) orbison
it's only love - capo 5th fret - beatles
Ain't it high time we went - joe cocker
Season of the Which
we gotta get out of this place
mustang sally - wilson picket/ commitments
breakdown tom petty
50 ways to loose your lover - paul simon
trawlerman  -  mark knoffler
Cissy Strut - the meters

Plus whatever songs anyone else can moan out the melody to.

If we can pull some practices together, you might hear:
saving grace - tom petty
check your bucket - duke and the drivers
too much - dave mathews band
Everlong  or  My hero - Foo Fighters

other stuff i will probably do... unless i'm talked out of/bribed/gun held to my head....

no reply - beatles
jesus etc. - wilco
jumping jack flash rolling stones
wild nights  - van morrison
the weight - the band
aint no sunshine - bill withers/sting
gimme some lovin - spencer davis group
from the beginning - E.L.P.
behind blue eyes The who
kicks - paul revere

My usual preamble applies: If your playing and you'd like to get some backup on some songs please post the list here..

In a week or so I'll post again to see who's coming, what your bringing for equipment and any other details.

As always, If you have any questions please post them here or email me:  bshaban@verizon.net

As Ever,

Bri

Bri,
I hope to see you on Friday.  I'll be at the Fest then but will have to leave to participate Saturday at a "Jamboree on the Air" event in Kingston, MA.
I miss not being able to play with all the guys at the Jam.  The one time that I did I had a blast.
To all those that will be there have a great time and make some great music.

Ok,
Were coming down to the wire. 6 days to go.
I got a fevah' that can only be satisfied by the jam with a heapin' amount of cowbell.

At this point I'd like to give a heads up as to what you should bring (if your playing) and what you may want to leave at home.

General Info:
The Jam will start between 7:30 and 8:30 dependin' on if the moon is in the right phase, the creek don't rise and the good lord (guy with the building key) is willing to let us in.
End time will be when we want it to. Could be 10:30pm, could be 2am.
I'll be coordinating the jam. Generally Some people will play  some numbers and then sit out while someone else plays. If there's a hole (bass player/drummer, etc) I may ask that person to stay up.
Please sit out every now and then and give another player some stage time. I may ask you to sit out if your bogartin'.

There is no storage for equipment before or after the jam.

Bring your own instrument and amp unless you've made plans to borrow from someone else.
On the subject of amps. It's not a big space; 18-50 watt amps will fill the place and cause ears to bleed. So leave the  800 Jigawatt marshall at home. we want to hear all the players not just the over amplified.

No acoustic drum kit this time. I will be bringing a Roland TD-6 kit with an amp.

Also, bring a little extra stuff in case a fellow musician forgot. Like instrument cables, picks, capo, guitar strings, power strips, etc.
Please let me know what equipment your bringing so I can work logistics. 16 cowbells and no sticks to hit them with is just wrong.

John and Adam: (If he can make it) will bring the music to you on your FM dial (95.1) in Glorious Technicolor Dolby 60.1 surround full release massage via the famous Wok-Fi! I love those guys.

Ben and his clan will be bringing the P.A. system. Without Ben the sound at the jam nor the radio feed would not be as pleasurable. Give him a big kiss on the lips when you see him!
I've gotten word Ben will need mic stands. So, Can we get a stand or 3?

Please don't be a dick. Come early and stay late to help us set up and break down.
If I have to ask you to help; Your a dick. Don't make me ask.

Bring lyrics/chord sheets of songs you want to play. I'll be bringing an overhead camera that will display the lyrics/chords on a screen via a video projector.

Musicians need to remove their equipment right after the jam ends. The building needs to be put back in order and locked. No equipment will be allowed to stay in the building overnight.

I'll be adding info as it comes in.

Thanks and see you at the jam.

Hi All, It's almost Jam Time!
Bri, thanks for bringing the drums! Not that I really minded bringing my elec kit, just makes it alittle easier for me, specially since I hardly ever played them when i brought them.  Everyone knows by now I'm more of a guitar guy!
Please let me know if anyone needs anything else. I will be bringing along a guitar, mic/stand/& cables. A pack of easy (for all players ) songs tab/lyrics. Also let me know if we still need some mic stands and I'll bring a few x-tra!
Also I'm sure you all saw Bri's wanted post...keep in mind I have more money than him if you have a vintage instrament for sale!!! LOL Just kidding Bri!! know that your hard work is appreciated!
See you all soon!,

If Ben can give John and I an audio feed for the broadcast, we would be eternally grateful.  If not, I'm bringing an alternative solution but the feed we had last time was awesome.  Hopefully we can do it again!

Also, Brian.....the overhead projector idea is a great one!!  Hope it works out!
